Loafing Around

I love my new loafers!! (Well, I love the idea of them, they have yet to arrive from ASOS).  My favorite part? The gold buckle is a horse!  Whimsy and structure meet.  Aaaaah-mazing.

ASOS

Asos, Bertie Lexi, Donald J. Pliner

I love how femininity meets androgyny with the loafer, as compared to the purely lady-like ballet flat.  It makes a girl look like she knows where she’s going.  They make a guy look determined as well, and I do love a determined man.

Pedi Time

During a trip to Florida for the weekend I was able to experience a taste of the approaching summer coming to Chicago.  Aside from the sunburn and my sudden jorts obsession, I realized that I am completely lacking in the summer shoe department.  And the nice looking toes department.

The sandal search begins.  I started with Target, Asos (the best part is you never have to leave your couch), and Steven Madden.

Flower platforms from ASOS and Aldo

More prints from Steve Madden and Target

Just a touch of color from Madden Girl and Target.

I’m not complaining here, but it’s hard to get away from platforms.  And prints. And brights.  But who cares! it’s all so summery and trendy.  I especially love the last two picks, featuring just a glance of the colors that make your outfit up-to-date.  Easier to wear than the tribal for flower patterns, but never boring.  Perf.

Doubtful DIY

I want to make this! Yeah, right.  I just want this beautiful James Nares for Coach bag.

Just something else I’m obsessing over that was intended for use by men! Sunglasses, watches, cologne, and now bags.

Jingle and Clink

So do you love or hate the constant jingle and clink that follows you around when you have too many bracelets on one wrist? For me (and i’m guessing these girls) the sound has become a bit of a soundtrack to my life.

Trail Blazing

First let me start with this; has life really been so busy the I have not been able to write a new post in over 2 months? Probably not.  Have I thought it has been too busy? Yes. Am I back for good? I hope so.  But on to more important things.

Recently, while sticking with a budget for the first time maybe ever, I have been on the prowl for essentials.  Trendy, but nothing that will be “not exactly perfect” in 2 months.   Next on my list is the blazer.  But what to do? Basic black? Embellished? Oversized? Shoulder pads? Cropped?!!!  Just reviewing the options tires me out.  What do the fall runways say about this dilemma? Do whatever you want, more or less.

Loewe, Vivienne Westwood, Y3

I’m not saying I love all the options above (maybe it’s the big hair that accompanies the Vivienne Westwood but I can’t handle the color, shape, or the fact that it was way too big in an unflattering way).  What I do love is the belted blazer that Sasha P is rockin’ for Loewe.

Feather Inspired Frocks

For their bright and saturated hues peacock feathers are both beautiful and very popular, often times in the form of prints, necklaces, and hair accessories. Instead of using the actual feather, as I have been tempted to do, I’ve decided to use those same sophisticated colors as inspiration for an entire outfit instead of something like a pair of earings. Below are some of the colors, in the form of specific pieces, that could easily be formed to created this peacock ensemble.

Caribu green sandals, Steve Madden

Sleeveless ribbed tank, Banana Republic

Poly Flower Ring, Forever 21

Fluro green shoulder bag, Marc Jacobs

Danya Knit dress, Forever 21

Eastwood Cashmere cardigan, Luella

TOMS for Whole Foods

It seems like everyone is collaborating these days, and grocery stores are no exception.  Whole Foods Market and TOMS, a company that donates a pair of shoes to a needy child for every pair sold, are joining forces to sell exclusive green and vegan footwear. So, don’t pass up the opportunity to buy these eco-friendly slip-ons because remember: the more you buy the more they give.

Pretty in Pale

While clicking through runway photos I always keep my eye out for make-up applications that are actually transferable to the real world.  My favorite from Berlin Fashion Week came from Penkov, which makes the girls look like young, rosy cheeked porcelain dolls.

Simple to recreate, all you really need is a shimmery highlight around your eyes (you can extend it further depending on the time of day and how daring you want to be), a soft bronzer for the cheeks, and a pinky lip gloss.  Out the door in no time flat.

Some of my favorites:

Lip gloss in Dreamer, L’Oreal HIP ($9.50)

Silver Touch, Sisley Cosmetics ($38)

Maxed out

More from Stockholm’s fashion week!  One trend I’m stuck on, and thankfully so are the designers, is the maxi dress (and skirt).  Four designers have sent this look, for both day and night, down their runways so far and I couldn’t be happier.

Gorgeous Green

Target, Publix, Whole Foods, Pier 1, every chain store seems to be selling their own reusable “green” shopping bags.  By the time you have bought bags for every store you frequent, just to avoid using the plastic alternative, your trunk will be packed full with ugly sacks.

Envirosax has created a better and more beautiful way to go, and stay, green with their very own set of coordination reusable shopping bags.  Large enough to hold two plastic bag’s worth of groceries they are just as functional as they are beautiful!
