Paris S/S 2009 RTW: (Preliminary!) Highlights

First off, many apologies for a lack of updates — between my being busy moving out of the state and Michelle’s on and off relationship with the Internet, we haven’t had a moment to really sit down and take a look at all the S/S shows that have been happening until now.  Luckiy for me, though, Paris always happens to host my favorite shows of the season.

My inner science fiction nerd fell in love with the Balenciaga presentation.  I am all about the  iridescent fabrics, and the cut of the pieces was perfect.  Can you even believe how great the male models looked in those supremely tailored suits?

Another favorite Paris show of mine was by Maison Martin Margiela, which celebrated the designer’s 20th anniversary.  A very conceptual presentation, Margiela obscured the faces of the models so that the focus was strictly on the clothes.  I’ve been in a blazer frenzy lately as well, so Margiela’s jackets with exaggerated shoulders were a welcome sight.

To round out the post, I’d like to take a closer look at Ann Demeulemeester’s Spring/Summer line.  This is one designer whose collections I would wear every season.  I love the gathering and draping of the fabrics, and I thought the lightness of the sandals balanced the volume of the dresses.
